Summer Is Here
No other season has a sound that can be tied to it as much as summer does. Every year, we yearn for these sun soaked months to come around, not only for the leisure-inclined beach days and barbecue pit nights, but for the equally gleaming new music that sure enough always comes along with it. So far, we've been blessed with an abundance of "feel good" summer soundscapes to listen to with the windows down, but Groundislava newest EP TV Dream might just take the cake. On the EP, the Los Angeles-based producer sets up a euphonic journey, fueled by the feelings and emotions summer naturally brings about. TV Dream opens optimistically with "Weekend In The Tropics", which is more or less a reincarnation of its title: a breezy boat ride through crystal clear waters with a drink in your hand that features a fruit sticking out the top of it. Next, we come upon the record's title track, which if "Weekend In The Tropics" is just a short getaway, "TV Dream" can be considered the long trip back home--an intrinsically lush love song dedicated perhaps to that special someone you met the previous weekend. Moving into "Tower Jump Suicide" and "Salt Of Love", we begin to experience the record's pensive state, an accumulation of cavernous downtempo tones and gloomy moods that bring us to the voyage's final chapter, "Reflecting"--a vicarious look back at the good and sometimes substandard times that were had, a feeling we all get when summer finally comes to an end.
For me, it's hard to imagine a summer without music like this, the kind of stuff that just makes every situation ten times better. Thanks to the good folks of Friends of Friends, for the price a few tallboy PBR's Groundislava's TV Dream EP can be yours, an equally intoxicating venture that you can indulge in far into autumn.
