We really don't know much about Russ Chimes.
We know he's from the UK and is a DJ, remixer, and producer. We also know he is influenced by 80s' synth funk and has subsequently joined the French electro collective Valerie. He is mostly known because of his internet releases of mixes.
Three of this London native's pieces specifically caught our attention. Chimes, in conjunction with director Saman Keshavarz, released Midnight Club EP, a three piece movement, back in November 2010. The music itself is worthy of high praise. Chimes has mastered a great balance among the low, mid, and high registers. The highs are not piercing as in most electro, and the lows are not overpowering. The synth melodies are catchy as fuck too. The songs do have select lyrics, but they're simple, short-lived, and universal in nature. What really makes this EP a gem is the short film to go along with it. It's a tale of two lovers, devotion, and heroics. It's ridiculously entertaining and we guarantee you'll watch the videos at least twice in immediate succession.
Head over to Chimes' Vimeo to watch. He has merged all three movements into one 17-minute short for your convenience. Check it out here. You can also watch them separately if that floats your boat.
