What is striking about Twin Shadow is its endless duality; the music is rife with overt influences, yet each song is unmistakably that of the artist; the music seems distant and intangible, yet remains deeply personal and close at hand; each song seems to establish a certain identity, yet each possesses elements which seem to be at odds with those parameters. Wait, holy shit; Twin Shadow is a perfect name.

The man behind that great name is George Lewis Jr. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised stateside in Florida, Lewis made a bit of a splash in 2010 with his debut album Forget. His follow up effort, Confess, dropped earlier this month, this time with Lewis producing himself (Forget featured the production of Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor). The album features more of Lewis’ synthed-out 80’s vibe, but maintains a current edge that places it squarely within the here and now.
