Caught Sleeping: Patrick Magno: Nautical EP

Magno, not mango
I think it's fair to say that San Francisco based producer Patrick Magno's got a bit of a thang for Rustie. Specifically his 2011 debut album Glass Swords, probably my favourite electronic album released that year. As well as just being an outright fun album, I fell in love with it's day-glo, faux 80's synths and sonic palette, over-the-top, not quite trap style of drum programming and vocal samples that sound like that annoying fairy from Zelda. Another refreshing aspect of it was it's focus on the higher end of the pitch spectrum, instead of the murky bass territories that many UK based producers tend to occupy.
So from that I think it's definitely fair to say that both Patrick Magno and I have a thing for Rustie. And Patrick (or P@trick M@gno as he's currently going with) recently released his Nautical EP on Soundhall Records. It's certainly got an air of Rustie to it, in the sense that it's got all of the above, and that I've also fallen for it. This EP is like the musical equivalent of a sugar rush: brief, fun, and addictive as fuck. For any fans of Rustie, Hud Mo or S-Type this EP is highly recommended.
The full 6-track EP is available as a free download from Soundhall Records.
