We Threw On A Three Piece Suit
Hello all, and welcome to the new LFTF. After utilizing our old layout for nearly two whole years, the beginning of 2012 brought about new, previously unforeseen opportunities. Things that the old format of the site just could not include. In an effort to open ourselves up not only to better represent the things we have already done with LFTF but to provide a foundation for future endeavors, we decided to embark on the long, stressful, but ultimately much needed process of redesigning LFTF. With the help of the absolutely amazing people at Made By Six and South Pole Creative, our dream website has been made into a realization.
We couldn't be more proud of the outcome your eyes are looking at right now, but as all websites experience when they take on a new format, there's a need to hash out all the new features. So, consider this a VIP look into the new LFTF and all it embodies.
Old Posts Archived
The first thing that needs to be mentioned is that all of our old content (excluding the posts from this past month and all of the Interviews, Mixes, Digging In The Crates, etc.) is being archived in a place off the site. This is mainly because we want to start fresh, and frankly implementing over a thousand posts into the new site does not sound all that fun. We are still in the process of creating that archived spot, but when it goes live, you will be the first to know.
Our Sounds
Finally, we now have a place on the website to showcase all of the music we exclusively release. Meet Our Sounds--LFTF's in-house imprint for not only Monthly and LFTF Mixes, but actual EP and LP releases from up and coming artists we find and bring to light right here on the site. We debuted the first edition of the Our Sounds saga yesterday with JAW JAM's untitled EP. In doing these kinds of releases, we are looking at it as more of a stepping stone rather than an actual record label. If done right, we want to use these more official-style debuts as an even better way to get the music we are excited about into the ears of influentials. And because at the end of the day we are still a blog--aka a bunch of crazy music heads that happen to find joy in putting words together--every release we do with Our Sounds will be absolutely FREE. Because, were fans too, dammit.
New Spreads
Along with our previous Spreads Interviews, Digging In The Crates, and WDOB (which are like LFTF's versions of feature articles) we have gotten rid of some and brought on new ones.
Unearthed
You Should Be Listening To is now Unearthed. We are still going to be using it in the same vein, which will serve as our version of album reviews and pieces on rising artists.
Caught Sleeping
Sometimes, we just can't cover it all, and there are some instances when we for what ever reason look over something really really great, and only catch onto it after all of our peers have done so already. Hence the reason for LFTF's newest Spread, Caught Sleeping. This is a way for us to showcase a new artist or album, without feeling totally lame about not catching onto it at first.
New Audio Players
If you go to any post on LFTF, you will see we have created custom audio players for all the music we post. Other than our own uploaded mp3's, the player also embeds SoundCloud links, and the way to tell which is which, is SoundCloud ones have the little orange cloud image on the player. Furthermore, clicking that cloud image will take you directly to the song on SoundCloud. Cool right?
LFTF TV
We've been increasingly interested in the idea of making the music we post more of an experience, and we came to the conclusion one of the biggest ways we can do that is through video. We really don't know what exactly we are going to end up doing with this section--the doors are wide open--but at the end of the day we want to create interesting videos that further connect the music to the person. If anyone is interested in helping out with LFTF TV, do not hesitate to email us at inquiries@liveforthefunk.com.
LFTF Shop
If you've been following us for awhile, then you know we are really stoked on the idea of making physical goods and giving them out to our fans. For the longest time we were just giving them out on a request basis, but earlier this year we got official with it and created an LFTF Big Cartel. Over time we will continually be adding new oddities to the LFTF Shop for you to indulge in, and we will always try to keep the prices as low as we possibly can.
