Sit Back, Relax

From Joey Bada$$ and Action Bronson to Kendrick Lamar and Ab Soul, 2012 has sparked a strong return to soulful golden age rap. Why? Well call me crazy, but it might have something to do with the fact that this is the kind of rap that's on the radio, and this is what famous rappers look like. I feel as though raps gotten so far away from its roots that it's finally generated a backlash, and now the new crop of MC's are taking things back to a time when rappers didn't skateboard and appear in reality TV. Our latest slice of 90s memorabilia comes from D.C. spitter Uptown XO, on the instantly uplifting jam "Good Vibes." Embbeded within a video that takes us to a late summer barbecue in full effect, "Good Vibes" sounds exactly like its title. Producer AB The Pro builds the beat around a soothing chord progression, which XO compliments with unruffled flow. The feel on this one is something you can't mistake. White, black, young, or old—we all go through times when the skies may be grey, but regardless, good vibes reign supreme.
