Marvin Gaye- Got To Give It Up (James Sison Mix)

Life's too short

I'm really happy to have stumbled across this tastefully tuned update of Marvin Gaye's 1977 classic 'Got To Give It Up' by James Sison, specifically as a mental salve from the head hurts caused by the headline 'Robin Thicke Is Really Sorry to Sue Marvin Gaye's Heirs' earlier this week.

Thicke and company are apologetically moving to 'preempt legal claims that Blurred Lines borrows too aggressively from late soul legend Marvin Gaye and the group Funkadelic'. And whilst I'd admit that there is a vague similarity between the songs - could it ever really be enough to file litigations against the estate of his deceased musical patriarch? Sadly it's just another day in the life of this year's most overplayed song about foreplay. I just hope it doesn't set a president of contemporary musicians pre-suing the artists they attempt to emulate in order to prevent being sued themselves.

James Sison however manages to bring the best of the original up to date without scratching the sides, showcasing Marvin's lyrical 'how-to' on simply having a good time and making the most, carefully cast over a cruising house framework.

If you're reading this, Robin: Give it a rest, yeah?

All else: Keep on dancing, whoo, baby (yeah)
