FADED

Capping off a wonderful weekend at Pitchfork Music Festival, last night we caught a highly anticipated set from Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar, the final MC to grace the stage at the festival which delivered numerous great MC's (Danny Brown, A$AP Rocky, Schoolboy Q). With expectations through the roof, Kendrick administered an enthusiastic set sprinkled with all his most virtuous tunes, such as "Cartoons & Cereal," "Rigamortis," and "ADHD." The highlight of the performance, though, came in "Swimming Pools (Drank)," the first single off Kendrick's upcoming album good kid m.A.A.d city which had been released via stream the night before. Since we were too busy all weekend indulging in hot Chicago sun and unhealthy amounts of Heineken Darks, the live version was the first time we had heard it, and jesus was it great. Even set on seemingly low volume, the song's prolific drum patterns left the crowd in a daze, setting up an irresistible groove for Kendrick's buoyant verses to glide over. We all knew the dude can rap, but seeing him bob and weave between flows live was a whole other monster. Stream "Swimming Pools (Drank)" below, and look for it out October 2nd along with the album.
