Kendrick Lamar- Compton (ft. Dr. Dre)

Posted by Andy Decelles

Kendrick Lamar is one of the foremost talents in the game today, and it shows on every track. Everything he puts out is quality shit, resulting in a remarkably consistent discography. The latest joint to emerge off the soon to be released (and rightfully hyped) good kid, m.A.A.d city, "Compton" features both Kendrick and Dre paying tribute to their hometown, going over an inventive beat that refuses to fall in with genre norms. Just Blaze crafted a beat that's heavy on grandeur, but also subtle enough to not overwhelm the MC, a careful balance that highlights his skill as a producer. Like everything else we've heard from the record, "Compton" sounds both classic and modern, grounded in respect for past masters while keeping an eye towards the future. That bridging of old and new is especially apparent on "Compton", thanks of course to Dr. Dre's verses throughout. As always, it's cool to hear one of today's most gifted MC's to go back and fourth with on of the greats. Pay respect below.

good kid, m.A.A.d city is due out October 22nd on Aftermath/Interscope Records. Pre-order it here now.
