Going where samples can't
We were already exceedingly amped for the new album from Montreal singer/songwriter Ango (we called him the male version of Sade, for christ's sake), but when we heard the Red Bull Music Academy graduate would be releasing it for the price of absolutely nothing, we about belted into our own, less tuneful, version of Sade harmonies. Serpentine enters as a collection of 10 delicately arranged original tracks featuring production work from the likes of Jacques Greene, Kuedo, Prison Garde, and more. Reveling heavily in the breezy r&b take we've come to expect from him, Ango lifts otherwise great standalone productions to new heights, bobbing in and out of intensely experimental sounds with ease. In fact the songs sound so virtuous, after listening you might find it hard to go back to future bass tunes without beautiful original vocals to accompany them. So savor it while you can.
