Ever wondered what a George FitzGerald production might sound like if a real singer went in over it instead of the song containing George’s now signature chopped up vocal hooks ?? Well, wonder no more. FitzGerald, known for his releases on Hotflush, ManMakeMusic and Aus, has collaborated with UK songstress Py to bring us a futuristic, house-tinged R&B slow burner that is sure to get a lot of play from us in the coming months. This one is part of a mixtape that Py will be releasing next month alongside other productions from some of the UK scene’s most buzzed about DJs. Stream/download “Lungs” below.

EMILY KING: THE SEVEN EP

The Monday blues got you down? You need some Emily King. This record is a welcome mixture of soul, blues, jazz, and vocal grace that revitalizes the soul. King’s voice is downright beautiful; you can practically hear feel her emotions through her lyrics. When she laughs, you laugh; when she dreams, you dream; when she cries, you cry. It’s almost impossible to not empathize.

And the grooves… Well, let’s just say if you’re not at least swerving your head in a slow and funky nod, then you need to go see a doctor… because you might have the boogie woogie fever… K, dumb joke, but seriously, listen.

Weren’t able to make it to Coachella yesterday ?? Don’t worry, Jonathan, Skrause and I couldn’t make it as well. Fortunately for those of us that can’t make it this year, many of the festival’s high profile performances are being broadcasted live on YouTube, including yesterday’s performance by Odd Future’s Frank Ocean. Based on the video alone it seems like Frank and BadBadNotGood, his backing band for the performance, experienced some serious sound issues. You’d think a festival that has now expanded to two weekends due to demand could afford to hire a decent sound engineer. But I digress, the crowd ate up the performance regardless. How could they not with a raw talent like Frank Ocean on the stage ?? Now I’m just keeping my fingers crossed for a FO tour. Until then I’ll probably just watch this video of his performance over and over again.

Some of you may recall back in January we covered the initial teaser for the debut soulful and dramatic release by Charles Hammond Jr. It was a very titillating teaser, one that kept us on the edge of our seats for the past few months. I found myself going back to the one minute video clip at least once a week to get my fix. Today, the wait is finally over, and the brief four track Hello, My Name Is… EP was released. Grab it below!

LFTF is very proud to bring the world the video premiere of The Harpoons single “Keep You Around” directed by Genevieve Bailey. It’s a wonderful homage to 60s Philly soul and features a lot of bizarre dance exercise. The granny definitely still knows how to kick it. Get off your tush and grab The Harpoons’ Walk Away / Keep You Around EP out on the super killer Melbourne-based label Two Bright Lakes.
