Over the weekend while we were busy rummaging the hipster ladened fields of Coachella and NOT being stoked on holograms, Major Lazer dropped this new little ditty featuring our biggest indie girl crush ever, Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors–who you may remember from Rusko’s hit single from back in the day, “Hold On”. Contrary to that tune though, Coffman’s breathtaking voice is positioned over tranquil reggae bass lines instead of deep sub-bass kicks–amounting to a song that’s as cool as the ocean breeze. It’s not often that we would post the refix of a “shuffle,” but when The Heatwave‘s refix of Jamie xx’s shuffle of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” appeared on YouTube earlier this morning we knew that we had heard something special. The Heatwave are a collective out of London with a weekly Rinse FM show who specialize in making bashment (dancehall) music and mixes. Featuring vocals from Cecile, Mr Lexx and Timberlee this refix takes no holds bar in their mission to, “show how dancehall is the root of jungle, garage, grime, dubstep and funky.”
Here in Colorado, winter is in the full swing of things…and what better way to fight the blistering cold weather than with a song about the complete opposite? Collie Buddz‘ new song “Holiday” takes us away to a place of beach front properties, jet ski’s, and frozen cocktails–almost making us forget that it is 15 degrees outside. Almost.
