Abteen Bagheri, the director behind ASAP Rocky’s “Peso,” brings us “The Alarm” from San Antonio up-and-comer Milli Mars. The song’s hard beat comes off even harder when paired with the video’s dark visuals. Enjoy.
We’d like to introduce you to Miami hip-hop outfit Stide Prince. This dude has a super slick flow and grinding beats that inspire confidence. He mixes essential elements of soul, funk, and east coast swag to produce a really bizarre back sound. Don’t get us wrong, this isn’t a bad thing. Listening to his music is like a “Uh… what the hell is that sound?” But at the same time you find yourself vibing out and jonesing for more. Check out his Agenda Talk below and keep close tabs on this dude; he’ll be releasing new stuff really soon.
Kirko Bangz, the Houston rapper behind “Drank In My Cup” (our 10th favorite song of 2011), is back at it with a brand new tune for us to zone to. Coming as the first single off his upcoming Progression 2 mixtape, “Knowmtalmbout” is slowed down and chopped up; a song dripping in more sizzurp than your local iHop. Featuring a guest verse from H-Town OG Paul Wall, peep the track now below.

Producer Thelonious Martin keeps things nice and smooth on his newest production piece for Odd Future member Hodgy Beats. “BLKN” comes in laced with silky piano work and warm boom-bap percussion, the perfect foundation for an ode to the finest plant on earth. Hodgy Beats/Mellowhype rarely ever steps out of his OFWGKTA mold to work with other producers, but we’re really feeling the chemistry between him and Theo. Let’s hope this isn’t the last time the two get together.

Atlanta rappers FKi are gearing up to drop their long-awaited Transformers in the Hood mixtape, a collective collaboration with critically acclaimed producers from all different types of genres. Today, the group has debuted the projects very first single “I Think She Ready”, featuring Australian female rap sensation Iggy Azalea and produced by Diplo and Heroes X Villains. Though known for calling their music “hip-hop dubstep,” this one shy’s away from alien wobbles and goes full on Lex Luger, complete with earth shaking 808′s and climbing synths. Check it out and download the song now below.

With his recent songs “Versace Rap” and “Gold Chain Ricky”, LA rapper Vince Staples has been our go to guy for laid-back raps to zone out to lately, matching compelling lyrics with equally intriguing beats that just beg to be replayed. Seriously though. On my iTunes alone I’ve listened to those two songs for a combination of 115 times. Sorry I’m not sorry. And this Vince Staples iTunes dominance will only continue to grow too, as the dude just dropped a new 10-track mixtape entitled Shyne Coldchain Vol. 1. At this point, we’re only a couple songs into it, but so far so good. Best lyric so far: “You want some positivity go listen to some Common.” We’ll just leave it at that.
