One of our favorite dubsteppers, Dub Police representative Subscape, recently lended his earth rattling bass delicacies over to the infamous Mishka Keep Watch Series, stringing together one of the best dubstep mixes we’ve heard in a minute. If you’re one of those “I use to like dubstep before Skrillex came around” type people, then this mix is for you, as it brings the genre back to its glory days–when you didn’t have to make a song full of chainsaw noises to be considered going hard.

Playing mostly his own songs throughout the mix, the piece comes as a clear-cut look into the deep and impressive catalogue thus far in the young producer’s career. Joker was feeling kind today and let go the instrumental version of his debut album, FOR FREE. Yep, at zero cost, you can now download instrumental-only editions of the six or so cuts off The Vision that originally had lyrics/singing on them. All you have to do is like his page on Facebook. Thanks Joker! Now all we can do is sit and hope The Weeknd gets ahold of the “On My Mind” beat and feels compelled to sing over it. Seriously crossing our fingers.

INTRODUCING: ATRASOLIS

What irks you most about Skrillex? The music he makes? The fact that he looks like your best friends 15-year-old sister? Or how quickly he’s risen to international stardom? For us, it’s probably the latter. In under two years, the guy has literally become the face of dubstep, surpassing certified legends in the game in fame and popularity. Case in point last weekend: at a Halloween show here in Denver, Skream & Benga opened for Skrillex. OPENED. Two dudes who are considered founders of this dubstep thing were left to sub-headline for someone who hasn’t put in even half the work that they have. It felt so wrong.

Another thing that irritates us maybe even more regarding the fame Skrillex has attracted is that there are people doing what he is doing, but better. Take Atrasolis, an outstanding dubstep producer out of Miami who probably hasn’t hit your radar yet. Astrasolis’ music fuses the world of dub with fidget/electro sounds, much like Skrillex does, but in a way that’s much more–for lack of a better word–musical. As the front man of multiple hardcore bands before venturing into producing, Atrasolis brings in a working knowledge of complex musical arrangement that usually gets lost amongst today’s electronic producers. Sure, Skrillex too used to be in a band prior to djing, but those influences don’t translate into the music he makes now. Atrasolis’ creations still embody that high-energy, dancefloor crushing sound, but have just the right amount of rhythm and melody so that it still sounds tuneful. Even in ear-wrenching dubstep there needs to be tangible musical elements, and this is what Atrasolis brings to the table.

In collaboration with The Overthrow, we are presenting Atrasolis’ debut EP I Am The Black Sun: Alpha in hopes that we can not only propel the young producer to dubstep stardom, but also put integrity back into the genre itself. MASSIVE ATTACK VS BURIAL- FOUR WALLS

20 years after the release of their seminal trip-hop album Blue Lines, Massive Attack are still celebrated as one of the genre’s champions. Even as the popularity of the genre seemed to dwindle as the 90s came to a close, Massive Attack are still as popular as ever, especially in their home country of the UK, where their 2010 album Heligoland was certified gold. Burial needs no explanation really. His 2007 album Untrue vaulted him into the sphere of dubstep royalty.

Now a limited edition collaboration 12″ vinyl between the two artists is to be released via Inhale Gold and The Vinyl Factory on October 17th. This collaboration comes as no surprise, however. Rumors of the collaboration have been floating around the internet for years and Hyperdub label head Kode9 dropped the Burial remix of Massive Attack’s “Paradise Circus” in a DJ set in Barcelona this past June. Titled “Four Walls” / “Paradise Circus”, the A-side is an unheard tune, while the B-side is a remix of one of Heligoland‘s more popular cuts.
