Only half past last year French Record Label Juicy made themselves known with the release of “Sunrise Blend“, a suitably named 16-track summer jam mix filled with gated snare reverbs and luscious 80s styled synthesizers that would probably put your mind on a relaxed drive along the beach even if you were actually stuck in rush hour traffic. In drops Falcons, an Oakland/ Vancouver based duo whose style fits Juicy’s like your favorite pair of Levis. Their track “Nigeria” is filled with beautifully laced synthesizers, delayed vocals, monstrous progressing reverbs and heavily rhythm driven percussion. This is definitely a must have and is available for free download via Juicy’s soundcloud page.
A couple weeks ago, we posted an absurdly good Keyshia Cole bootleg from a dude by the name ofJAW JAM, who at the time, was still an anonymous Soundclouder to us with a love for bass music and R&B songstresses. Featuring chopped up/screwed down vocals and synths so unsettling they’d make even James Blake shiver in fear, the bootleg was instantly gratifying, and had us wondering why the name JAW JAM hadn’t hit our radar sooner. Well after emailing the man himself, our question was answered: JAW JAM, the moniker of 19-year-old New Jersey native Will DiMaggio, is not even three months old. When we asked him about it, his words specifically were: “Jaw Jam really only started as a small project during this past winter break.” Oh, for sure dude. I guess if you consider creating some of the most forward thinking bass music this side of planet mars a “small project,” then yeah, we’re right there with you.
One thing’s for certain though–there’s definitely nothing “small” about JAW JAM’s productions. Again, in less than three months, he has (publicly) let out five tracks–four bootlegs and one original. Out of those five tracks, there isn’t one that doesn’t impress. You see, the style JAW JAM is going for is nothing new–broken down melodies, eclectic vocal samples, heavy 808′s–it’s all been done before. But what’s truly interesting about JAW JAM’s material is the apparent lack of mediocrity. From every vocal sample he selects to work with, to every bleep and blip sound byte that he infuses within–it all screams professional, and for a 19-year-old kid from the U.S. who’s only been around since December, that’s saying something.
Below, JAW JAM has bestowed upon us his latest creation to premiere to the world: a wonked-out, future bass flip on the Clipse & Pharrell classic “Mr. Me Too”. Download it now, and hit the jump for our exclusive interview with the dude, as well as links to every piece of music JAW JAM has released thus far.

Paul Rose aka Scuba has made a name for himself by not confining his sound to one specific genre of electronic music, which is almost ironic, because in the process of doing so he has crafted a sound that is uniquely and entirely his own. Even on tracks such as last year’s massive “Adrenalin” — with it’s leanings towards lighthearted trance — one can hear Scuba’s signature sound in the chords of the tune. Rose has been making music since the early days of dubstep, but moved to Berlin back in ’07, which is when he began to incorporate elements of classic house and contemporary techno into his work. He has become somewhat of a poster boy for bridging the gap between the two electronic music Meccas of London and Berlin.
In between DJing around the world and making tracks of his own Rose somehow finds time to manage the Hotflush Recordings imprint– the somewhat prolific label that might as well be responsible for forcing journalists and bloggers to coin the genre name “post-dubstep” behind the release of Joy Orbison’s 2009 underground smash “Hyph Mngo.” Hotflush’s next release is Rose’s 3rd LP, Personality, and like every new Scuba release before it Rose has pushed his sound in a new direction. At times the LP recalls the balearic house of Ibiza and the industrial techno of Berlin while not forgetting to inject the signature chords and basslines of the UK underground. This LP is huge and even though it won’t see an actual release until February 27th, you can stream it in it’s entirety below via the embedded SoundCloud player. I know that it’s only February, but don’t be surprised to see this LP on a number of year end lists come December. It really is THAT good.
Over the weekend, a James Blake live album popped up on the interwebz and our only question is WHY HASN’T THIS HAPPENED ANY SOONER?? With the downright cult-like fanbase this guy yields, you’d think something like this would have happened already–”this” being some superfan taking a field recorder to a James Blake show and documenting it to use for meditation at a later date. Well we can thank the dudes superfans over at the Tumblr The Wilhelm Scream for finally doing the dirty deed, check the tracklist out and download the entire album now below.

No idea who this dude JAW JAM is, but he is rendering some real Jamie xx, Harmonimix vibes right now with the four total songs he has on his Souncloud page. The best of the bunch is below, a funked out and chopped up rendition of Keyshia Cole’s hit “Love”. Let’s hope we hear more from JAW JAM in the near future.

TheBoiler Room puts on parties that about 99% of us will never get the pleasure of being invited too, but hey at least they’re decent enough to show us all the fun we miss out on. Here’s the latest piece that they’ve pulled from their archives and made available to the world, a 100 minute long back to back Jamie XX/Caribou set from October of last year. You know, nothing too crazy.
Our dude Daniel Disaster of Heroes and Villains has been grinding hard over the past year, and finally it looks like all that work is paying off. This past weekend the DJ/producer kicked off his new monthly residency in Los Angeles with Tamara Sky. Before heading out west though, the ATL representer laid down this swagged out mix for Atlanta radio station 88.5, letting his hometown fans know he hasn’t gone Hollywood on them just yet. “Here’s a little string of songs I listen to while riding around the city,” says Daniel of the mix. Filled to the brim with synthy R&B, post-dubstep, and bass heavy vibes, stream/download the mix now below. HEROES X VILLAINS LIVE ON 88.5 RADIO MIX by Heroes x Villains
