CLIENTELE: BITCHES EP (PREVIEW)

If you’ve been reading my posts on this site for the past year, then you know that there’s nothing that gets me going more than some old school garage basslines. Enter Clientele, the latest under 20 production duo from the UK, after Disclosure and Bondax, to make addictive garage-inspired cuts. Straight out of Sheffield in the north of England, these two young blokes have already seen support for their tunes from UKG champion DJ Q as well as numerous plays on the legendary Rinse FM station. They are still unsigned at the moment, but that hasn’t stopped them from upping a preview of their forthcoming Bitches EP onto Soundcloud. Stream it below. These three tunes are safe.

BONDAX- ALL INSIDE

Do you ever listen to a tune that you think is great only to get slightly bothered when you discover that the people that took the time, effort and energy to carefully conceive that tune are significantly younger than you are ??

Meet Bondax, the still in high school production duo from Lancaster, UK who have been buzzing up the blogosphere for a few months now behind the strength of their (very impressive) SoundCloud page. Today sees the release of their new single, “You’re So” for the Super imprint, and to mark the occasion the duo have offered up another song, “All Inside,” for free download. This track sounds like something that Mount Kimbie would make while inside of a piece of hollowed out drift wood floating at sea. The tune’s filtered, chopped-up vocals add a silky smoothness to it that– when coupled with the subtle seagull calls towards the end– make for a song that has a definite maritime vibe. Download/stream “All Inside” below and  buy “You’re So” now over at boomkat.

TRIKK: MANMAKEMUSIC MIX001

Within the highly fragmented world of bass music there is one niche sound that I particularly enjoy and that is the UK Garage-tinged take on house music of George FitzGerald and his label ManMakeMusic. The third release from George’s label comes from Portugal native Trikk and in true ManMakeMusic form it is, “driven by relentless techno drums yet softened at points with a smattering of twisted garage vocals.” The Jointly / I Fall Down EP comes out on March 26th, but in the meantime ManMakeMusic have taken to their Mixcloud page to have Trikk showcase his DJ skills. ManMakeMusic Mix001 is a 35 minute mix of deep vibes that is just as good to chill out to at home as it is to dance to at your favorite night club. Stream the mix via the Mixcloud player below and enjoy.

JACKMASTER SET FROM NUMBERS LONDON 2011

You don’t win DJ Magazine’s breakthrough DJ award for nothing right? Jackmaster is one of the best in the game today, possessing the uncanny ability to mesh all BPM’s and styles together in an unstartling way. And the best part about his sets–at least in our eyes–is his love for the element of surprise. Each of his mixes posses at least five or six total WTF moments that keep things from being too pretentious. Over the weekend Jackmaster released the long promised recording of his set from the Numbers London Warehouse Party this past December.

“We need to say a really big thanks to Black Atlantic and Red Bull, but most of all the troops who stayed till half past 6 in the morning singing along to all the tracks and dancing on top of their mates shoulders. You guys made one of the best parties we’ve ever been involved in so thanks very much. – Jackmaster”

JAM CITY & MAIN ATTRAKIONZ- THE NITE LIFE

Nightslugs x Green Ova. Jam City x Main Attrakionz. This collaboration is so out of this world we couldn’t have even dreamed it up, and that’s saying something. This–this is just nuts. How a Bay Area stoner rap crew gets in touch with a South London future bass producer is just beyond me, but what’s even more crazy is the outcome.

Move slow think fast,” recites Main Attrakionz at the beginning of the song, almost to  foreshadow the sedated vibe that is to come. The rap duo’s laid back flow works harmoniously with Jam City’s inebriated synths, which periodically flow in and out of earshot atop click-clacking dings and rumbling bass undertones. The song is dark, dingy, and hazy–all the things that represent what both of these artists stand for in their music. It’s somewhat of a perfect match, and quite frankly we’re amazed that we didn’t see this correlation before. Thankfully though, somebody did. Stream the track now below and look out for it releasing via Night Slugs February 27th.

Over the weekend, a James Blake live album popped up on the interwebz and our only question is WHY HASN’T THIS HAPPENED ANY SOONER?? With the downright cult-like fanbase this guy yields, you’d think something like this would have happened already–”this” being some superfan taking a field recorder to a James Blake show and documenting it to use for meditation at a later date.  Well we can thank the dudes superfans over at the Tumblr The Wilhelm Scream for finally doing the dirty deed, check the tracklist out and download the entire album now below.
