DROP THE LIME LOVES THE 50′S

You know what makes Drop The Lime cooler than your average electro producer? His fond appreciation for music that is NOT electro. Check out this live set he did at the Notting Hill Carnival music festival a couple weeks ago. Before going into the wobbly, bass heavy tunes that he’s known for, the first 10 minutes of his set is an ode to his favorite 1950′s doo-wop songs. I mean, who else does that shit? At a festival in front of people who for the most part probably have no idea who you are…you open with doo-wop? That’s pretty damn badass if you ask me…oh, and I almost forgot to mention the rest of his set fire as well. Trouble & Bass stand up.

MATT & KIM- CAMERAS

Oh, now this is funky. “Cameras” is the first piece of music Matt & Kim have released since their critically-acclaimed album Grand came out back in 2009 and believe me, it does not disappoint. Sticking to their signature electro-rock style, “Cameras,” which is the first single off their upcoming album Sidewalks due out in November, is a catchy tune with an even catchier beat. Check it out below:

PIMP C- WHAT UP FEAT. BUN B AND DRAKE

Bun B and Pimp C are like ice cream and pie…they’re substantially good alone but put together it creates something of magic. That magic gets displayed here on”What Up,” the first single off Pimp C’s (RIP) last and final album, The Naked Soul of Sweet Jones due out Oct. 5th of this year. Drake gets recruited for the opening verse and chorus of the song, as Pimp and Bun tag team the remainder of the track in great UGK fashion. Big up Boi-1da on the beat, this song is pure anthem.

I NEED A DOLLAR (OLIVER $ EDIT)

“I Need A Dollar” by Aloe Blacc is a song that speaks of life’s financial hardships and the everyday struggle to make it for one’s self. Originally an emotionally heavy tune, producer Oliver $ has flipped the script of the song and given it a more bright and uplifting feel. With help from some high flying trumpets, a bouncy beat, and a well used piano riff, this remix almost makes being poor and jobless sound fun…almost.

Mr. HUDSON- LOVE NEVER DIES

The results are unanimous- Mr. Hudson has got soul. It’s no wonder Kanye West signed him to his music label, G.O.O.D. Music. My favorite part of “Love Never Dies” is when the dupstep synth first comes in, it’s like Mr. Hudson is saying “bitch, give me back my street cred.” He sounds like a modern day version of Sting but with way doper production and you can actually understand what he’s saying.
