Diplo‘s success over the years can be attributed to one pretty simple formula: pull influences from obscure genres from different parts of the world, and recreate them into dancefloor murdering hybrids. For the dude’s newest EP Express Yourself–which comes as his first solo EP in over three years–Diplo utilizes this technique to perfection. This time around, that obscure genre he exploits is New Orleans Bounce, which is a kind of music characterized by energetic hip-hop beats and call and response style dance call-outs. Diplo’s rendition though, ex-nay’s the hip-hop part and substitutes in earth rattling dubstep stabs, taking Bounce to a whole new level.
