LFTF’S TOP ALBUMS OF 2010

Can we please all agree 2010 was a year where we got spoiled rotten with great music? After checking out a few other websites’ albums of the year, we’ve noticed a small trend: no two lists are anywhere close to being the same–which we can only believe is testament to the massive amount of good music there was to listen to this year. Over the past couple days we’ve scoured through 12 months worth of music and though it was an insanely (and we mean insanely) hard task, we found a way to narrow down our favorite albums of 2010 into a list of 25. Let the disagreeing begin:

Love the list, Big Boi’s album was definitely one my favorite’s this year…props

WOW December 13, 2010 at 6:03 AM

WOAH! A best albums of 2010 list that DOESN’T have Kanye’s album as #1….i’m impressed

Chris December 13, 2010 at 7:37 AM

Fuck yes for AraabMuzik!

Shane Turner December 13, 2010 at 4:18 PM

Waka Flocka LAME made this list? What about Chromeo? Thanks for the intro to EARL though

smerf December 13, 2010 at 4:39 PM

haha KANYE? this is the 25 best bro

osfeditor December 13, 2010 at 5:05 PM

Yeah I have to agree with the Waka comment, he is annoying and the music is not that great. Agreed with most of the others though, you had some diff ones from other blogs which is nice. BTW awesome that you put big boi first, that is sucha great album!

Mike Wash December 13, 2010 at 7:15 PM

Here’s a great article written by Sean Fennessey (Pitchfork senior editor) that hits on a lot of the reasons why we absolutely LOVED Waka’s debut album Flockavelli. And the article starts out saying (and we totally agree), “Waka Flock Flame is not, in the parochial sense, a good rapper.” Check it out here: http://www.villagevoice.com/2010-10-06/music/waka-flocka-flame-is-yelling-at-you-for-a-reason/

mark December 13, 2010 at 7:32 PM

fuck the kanye haters, that album is an insta-classic

ESPN December 13, 2010 at 8:45 PM

Broken Bells was a completely average album and was no where close to being either Danger Mouse or James Mercer’s best work.

You have 2 dnb albums on this list. Relevant DNB hasn’t been made in over 10 years. Breakage has one good song and that’s his collaboration with Burial (who is a 2step producer).

I also am shocked to see autolux and delorean on this list, yet Flying Lotus (who might have made the best album of his carrer) isn’t anywhere to be found.

And as good as the Big Boi album is let’s be honest with ourselves. In terms of pushing pop music and commercial rap forward, MBDTF is a much better album. It is the least formulaic and most forward thinking pop album of the year. Not only that but the EARL album is better than the Big Boi album in terms of originality and creativity. The Odd Future crew (along with Das Racist) have single-handedly revived underground hip-hop this year.

But hey. props on araabMUZIK. dude might be the best beatmaker in the game right now. That mixtape is seriously great.

D&B Enthusiast December 13, 2010 at 9:35 PM

In Relpy to ESPN’s comment about drum & bass:

First of all, to classify Breakage’s album Foundation as a drum & bass album would be COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY wrong. There was maybe one…ONE drum & bass song on the whole album, “Old Skool Ting” and that wasn’t even drum & bass…it’s jungle. Breakage’s album was monumental FOR THE REASON that it didn’t stick to one genre. It has everything, dubstep, 2 step, garage, hip-hop, r&b.

And your comment “There hasn’t been relevant D&B made in over 10 years” just makes you sound for lack of a better word. RETARDED. Drum & bass has and still is one of the most popular forms of dance music in the UK. Netsky’s album was for me the best dance music album to come out of 2010 and I am psyched that it made LFTF’s list. Just cause you have something against drum & bass, don’t take it out on LFTF…that is your own damn problem

Araab, its about time December 13, 2010 at 10:06 PM

I couldn’t believe my eyes when araab made this list, not only because his work is unbelievable but because so few discuss his work, in fact i couldnt believe my eyes when “salute” was posted earlier this year. As for Waka, i dont disagree that he deserved to be on the top 50 but maybe the not the top 25 and definitely not when Chromeo somehow did not make this list.

Also, way to but Big Boi first, though i would love to have seen general patton beneath it instead of shutterbug.

Mike Wash December 13, 2010 at 10:18 PM

We are still discussing whether or not we are going to put out a “top songs” list…but when we gathered our favorite hip-hop songs “Salute” by Dipset (AraabMuzik produced) was our #1 this year. Without fucking question. Araab had a HUGE year in our eyes and yes, we wish others would start noticing! Hopefully the fact that Instrumental Kings is on our list (and downloadable) people will start coming around. But yeah, great comment!

And FYI we could of put ANY song off Big Boi’s album up there…they are all phenomenal. I just can’t get enough of the opening verse in Shutterbug: “I keep it player while some choose to play it safe/boy check the resumé its Risky Business in the A.”

Araab, its about time December 13, 2010 at 10:28 PM

PLEASE, put out a top songs, i would love to see your guys’ thoughts on what they might have been. I would hope Yelawolf would also make that list.

Myles December 13, 2010 at 10:41 PM

No Str8 Killa by Freddie Gibbs? C’mon now.

Mike Wash December 13, 2010 at 11:15 PM

@Araab- We still might do it…not only is it extremely hard to get a well rounded list of songs together it’s also very subjective…but maybe we can find a way to do it. And Yelawolf is all over that list btw. TRUNK MUZIK!

@Myles- If the list was extended to 50 Freddie Gibbs would without a doubt be in there, so would Trunk Muzik 0-60 and so would Big K.R.I.T.’s Wuz Here.

RTD-DENVER December 15, 2010 at 12:18 AM

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t jungle and DnB the same genre?

naza December 15, 2010 at 4:10 PM

quite a varied list, but missing MAGNETIC MAN debut album,& RUSKO’s OMG coulda been in there somewhere.

Mike Wash December 15, 2010 at 5:39 PM

I can see how someone would make an argument for Magnetic Man’s debut but to be honest I thought Rusko’s OMG was extremely bland as an album.

naza December 15, 2010 at 7:44 PM

Gorillaz album bored me to death.
Crystal Castles II awesome album.looking forward to Chase & Status album in 2011 & Katy B’s debut,& Florence & The Machine new album.
Rusko – OMG had some bangers on it man!
