Born and raised in the suburbs of Lyon, France, Douster‘s musical journey began at a very young age. At first only listening to the then omnipresent sounds of Euro dance and the 50′s rhythm & blues his parents would play on the car radio, at the tender age of 8 he was introduced to the world of French rap, and from there, the rest would be history. Purchasing his first set of Technics at 14, the young prodigy fell in love with his new toys, making beats for all his friends and mastering the fine art of production.

The early 90′s saw a huge influx of dancehall and dub/reggae music into Europe. Consequently, this made a big influence on Douster’s music, seeing more heavy sub bass begin to appear in his productions. An even larger kick in his sound came from a study abroad trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina in college. There, he immersed himself in cumbia villera and quickly became apart of the local Zizek music collective. Honing his skills at underground parties, Douster soon found a niche for himself, where the glitchy electro, hip-hop he was use to playing collided with the tropical sounds of cumbia, kuduro, and dancehall/reggae music.

So, just to put it all in perspective for you, Douster has taken French electro music and mixed it with South American music, and has created somewhat of a perfect storm. “My music just sounds like all of my influences,” he said. “Well…all blended together.” Below we’ve selected a few of our favorites from the man, some new…some old…but all classics.
